Avignon is a medieval walled city with 39 towers and 7 gates. It's an amazing place especially the Palai Des Papes dating back from when Avignon was the centre of the Roman Catholic world. (1309-1377) & now its the Vatican. We stayed in the historic Hotel De L'Horloge which was right in the centre of this ancient city. The bridge over the Rhone, just outside the wall was begun in 1177. Everywhere we've been there are wonderful Christmas fairs and celebrations.
