Even though the water in Brisbane is beginning to subside it is still in the 2 metre range, there are other places in Queensland high alert. Goondiwindi is still braced for the water level to exceed their levi bank. NSW and Victoria have also been struck by floods. I fear in weeks to come there will be more flooding down south as the Qld waters wash into the Darling and then the Murray River. As the water begins to subside in Brisbane, everything is carpeted in foul smeeling mud.
60 schools have been affected. There are still thousounds of people in shelters who can't get back to their homes (and some may never get back until their house is demolished and rebuilt). 66,000 are still without power.
600 Australian Defence Force personell have been deployed to the flood ravaged areas. A defence force mine sweeper has arrived in Moreton Bay to detect any dangerous debri below the surface of the mouth of the river - and beyond.
The death toll is still 15.
I went to the supermarket today to buy cleaning products. A group of us who are part of a rubber stamp club, has got together to do our bit.
In many sections of the large supermarket the shelves were bare. Fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, bread, flour were amongst the most noticable empty areas.
