Bussana Veccia in Italy is a 1000 year old ghost town in Liguira. Between 1162 and 1177 Bussana fell under the domain of the counts of Ventimiglia, a century later it passed to Genova and has had a checkered history every since. The place was destroyed by an earthquake in 1887 and subsequently abandoned. The survivors moved a few kilometres downhill and founded Bussana Nuova and one of those went on to invent the icecream cone.
In 1961 an International Community of Artists was formed and eventually restoration started on the least damaged buildings. Eventually the commune numbered some thirty artists - painters, sculptors, potters, writers, musicians, actors and designers. The people who live there now appear to have the same sort of existence.
These glass houses are very common in the parts of Italy that I saw where Roma tomatoes, other veg and flowers are cultivated.
