Menton is the most Italian of all the French resorts - it is not far from the borders of Italy, the Principality of Monaco and the Comte' de Nice. The distance from Cannes is about 50k.

The famous geographer Elysee Reclus once stated that Menton was "the pearl of France" partly because of the scents, colours, tranquility but also the diversity of activities. Over the years David and Susan have been sending me photographs of the famous citrus festival held there each February, so it was interesting to see Menton for myself. I did notice that citrus are used as street trees in many places in the South of France and there were some beautiful specimens, even in Cannes.
The colours were what struck me most... and the sea's were wild after a storm.
So here are some photographs of the most amazing New Year's Day I have ever had.
